Garnet is known for its deep wine red coloring, however they can be found in almost every color. These gemstones are metamorphic and igneous rock and have formed under extremely high temperatures and pressure. Mining locations include Africa, India, Russia, South America, Madagascar and the U.S. 

Garnet is often gifted to a loved one before they embark on travel to promote a speedy and safe return. Legend states the Hades gifted a pomegranate to Persephone before she left his domain to ensure her safety and return. When she did return, the fruit transformed into a handful of the red gemstones.
